Mental Health and Immigrant Communities

Check out this heartbreaking story that is at the same time full of hope. I stumbled unto the wonderful publication, KoreAm, last night, by happenstance. It’s a monthly magazine that discusses issues through the lens of the Korean-American experience.

From Hell to Hope is the story of Binna Kim, a young woman who survives a tragedy in her family, goes through incredible emotional and physical pain and is looking up. It’s a bit long, but definitely worth a read.

Her story made me think about the role, or rather the place Mental Health is given among immigrant communities. We often don’t talk about it, until it’s staring at us, right in the face.
